Former actress and model Mari Gayatri Stein traded her hometown of Hollywood for an artist’s vocation in the mountains of Oregon. From the organic farm she shares with her partner and two rescue dogs, she authors and illustrates books, contributes to newspapers and magazines, and paints. Her fine art has been displayed in galleries nationwide. She is a popular practitioner and teacher of meditation and yoga and is a devoted mentor for women in recovery. Mari has authored eleven books, illustrated countless others, and created a line of whimsical greeting cards.
Whimsy is her forté. With a concise stroke and subtle color and pithy repartee, she expresses the essence of our passions, intimate feelings, insightful thoughts, universal truths, and poignant messages. She makes us laugh and cry. Invites us to relax into our core.
Critics describe her work as Thurberesque or Picasso-like and reminiscent of William Steig. Her words and art are eclectic. Within her portfolio of books and art, you find soul sustenance, altruism, and cynicism dignified with humor. Sensuality and eroticism are served up with a soupçon of the whimsical.
